Labor's fruits

I love being pregnant. And I love having a newborn baby. But that "process" necessary to get from one to the other, is rough. Having just experienced that process, three weeks ago today, I've been reflecting on it a lot. It's such a curious and amazing thing--labor. You never know when or quite how it will happen. I like the element of surprise that comes with spontaneous labor. It's exciting and miraculous to experience. I was fortunate to go into labor completely on my own this time, and truly let nature take its course. I am in awe at the Creator's perfect plan for bringing His children into the world. I love being a part of it.

I would NEVER say labor and delivery were easy, and during the most difficult parts, I am surely wishing it were already over. But I know I am fascinated by it, because I have found myself reliving in my mind the last 30 minutes before (and including) Ansley's birth, over and over. It was intense, but it was incredible, and I want to remember exactly how it happened. Now I'm not going to lay out the details of it right younger brothers read my blog for goodness sakes. But I'm grateful for the memories I'll always have, of the births of each of my four children. Of course there is no doubt where the joy in childbirth is rooted--it is in the end result. The fruit of your labor, pun intended.

I had to sneak in a few more of the "fruits" of Minna's labors. These photos are too precious not to share. And since everyone was gushing about the pictures and the hat, I'll brag a little more and tell you that Minna knits her own props! I know--the girl's got talent.

"Baby Girl Ransom"

We are excited to announce that this little one has a name. The fact that we are excited to announce it reassures us that this is the name for her. A few days after she was born, we named our baby girl, Emma Riley Ransom. But we did not feel confident nor excited about it as we told people. So we re-thought it...for about a week. And decided to change our daughter's name to...
Ansley Emma Ransom.
We have yet to make the change legal at the Queens County Courthouse, but the change is official in our home. Phew.
Credit for these photos goes to my amazing friend, Minna. Not only is she an amazing photographer, as evidenced above, but she made a house call to do this photo shoot when Ansley (then Emma) was five days old...and she was nine-months pregnant herself! Her baby is due any minute now. That is a devoted friend. Thanks, Minna.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

With any luck, we'll soon decide on a name for this
leprechaun's little sister.

Back to School...

For Marliese that is. You see, she claimed all along to have seen evidence during an ultrasound that a boy was on the way. She was so confident of this that we ended up focusing solely on choosing a boy name and brought only blue clothes to the hospital. Well.... it seems that she must have failed either Anatomy 110 or Sonogram Decryption 385 in college. To her credit, I've always been amazed/puzzled at what ultrasound specialists can determine from those fuzzy pictures.

I''ll let Marliese share more details on the birth in another post if she wants, but I'll say that everything went very smoothly. You can imagine our surprise when the nurses announced that we had a new baby GIRL. And double the surprise when they put her on the scale. Our first three have all been 7 lbs. and change. This little girl made the most of her extra week in utero and came out tipping the scales at 9 lbs. 10 oz! Name still TBD....

While we wait...

I am enjoying my nearly 2.5 year-old "baby" while she is still our baby.

Today Eden was having fun performing for the camera. Here she is singing "Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam" and "I am a Child of God..."

and reciting a nursery rhyme from a favorite bedtime book...

As you can see, we have a lot of quality one-on-one time together with Tyler and Tessa both in school all day. We're about to give some of that up with her new sib coming, but I think Eden will enjoy being the big sister for a change. Here's hoping for a smooth adjustment for all.

No Baby Yet

In case you are wondering, this is how I look right now...yep, still pregnant. Three days overdue and counting, but that's okay with me. I can wait a little longer. Eden doesn't look as happy there in the background, but I think that distressed face was because she wanted to be in the picture with me, not because she is sick and tired of waiting for her little brother or sister to arrive. Final predictions on gender or birthdate? If you're correct we'll name the baby after you--ha, yeah right. We won't promise that but we could still use suggestions. Any day now...
