I turned 31 years young last week, so I guess I'm old enough to have kids who can pull off their own birthday stunts for me...and that they did. Tyler and Tessa woke up at 6:30am on February 17 and whipped up breakfast for me. I was completely surprised when they came into my room at about 7:30 singing "Happy Birthday," carrying a tray with scrambled eggs, toast and leftover coffee cake in a tupperware. I was impressed (and relieved) that they had successfully cooked eggs on the stove (that was a first). But the best part of my breakfast-in-bed was the beverage--a root beer float. Who can resist that, at any time of day? They were so proud. And it made my whole day.

Over the past several years we've kept a journal of the funny things our kids say. I was reading it recently and came across this gem from Tessa. Eden was crying about something and Tessa said this to console her,
"It’s okay, Eden, I’m right here, you don’t need to cry. You should only cry if you’re alone, or if you get punched.”
Wise words from an older, more experienced sister. While searching for a nice depiction of a face-deforming punch, I came across this beauty:
The poor guy's expression while getting rocked by the cro-magnum sasquatch is pretty sweet. Bad choice on the pink gloves...
