Simple Summer

Our summer was not one of exotic getaways or high-adventure. It was filled with simple things...

We grew lots of this (above)...so we baked lots of this (below)...

It all added up to lots of time spent together--down town, baby time, play time, chore time, active time, movie time, water time, air-conditioned time, reading time...good times. A nice summer in my book.

Too kind

I am so grateful forgiving children! Tonight as I was tucking kids in bed, I was feeling guilty for all the times I lost my patience or was too bossy and drill-sargeant-like today. I was already rehearsing my apology talk for tomorrow, when Tessa burst out with, "you are the best mom ever."

I quickly answered, "Oh, Tessa, you are too nice. I could be so much better."

She kept it up, "No, you couldn't! You are a perfect mom, seriously."

Please believe that I seriously did not deserve this, but then Eden chimed in from her bed, telling me how great I was. Really not true, especially today, but it was so sweet to hear. I was touched that they could see past my correcting and groaning and loud exhaling during the day, when I should have been encouraging and smiling and laughing things off.

Lucky me...to have been shown mercy. It makes me want to try harder to be a great mom, since people already believe that I am. Is that really what I am in their eyes?

I'm not sure. I really believe I got lucky today...but I may not get off so easy next time; I better step it up. I am certainly thankful for my Heavenly Father and my children, who overlook flaws and love me unconditionally. My sweet girls taught me an important lesson today.
